I was riding in the lower parts of the Brecon Beacons a few years ago - offroad but not on those absurd climbs and descents.

There was a rumbling behind me and three Freelanders came past in convoy, occupants talking on VHF or similar. Forage caps and stubble. Very, very tough.

(Aside: I briefly used a Freelander at work and I thought it a silly car: Little clearance or power and a rear window that froze in -15C so you couldn't open the tailgate).

I think these ones were slightly raised and a couple of them had banks of spotlights over the windscreen.

It wasn't what I'd call difficult offroad terrain, either for my HT MTB or their Freelanders.

It was VERY like the Fast Show. When I saw a sticker saying something like Freelander Xtreme... the image was complete.

I suspect that somewhere in their minds those people had ONE LIFE and intended to LIVE IT!!

They didn't barge me off my track, so I was happy enough.
