online birmingham canal maps

was wondering if anyone has any decent online canal maps of the birmingham area

did a sweet 22 mile loop round brum/ gravely hill/ ocker hill and was looking to do some longer loops

have googled it but just seem to find sites selling them

I personally wouldn't go on the canal tow path around Brum.

There are some unsavoury characters who would take the opportunity to gain a free second hand bike from a cyclist who didn't intend to give it away.

I don't like the canals much, the paths are way too narrow on some of them, and too much faffing about when passing people or going through them silly gates. I understand why some people like them though.

I've also heard the rumours, but have covered the majority of Brum towpaths in about 15 years of riding on them regularly and have never experienced any trouble of this kind anywhere.

There is always a chance the Cuckoo Rd crowd will get you.

You can get it from the shop at the Black Country museum for about a fiver. It's very good and covers Brum, the Black Country and up as far as Brownhills. Much nicer to have a map on you.
