They didn't

The one I referred to failed to reach the required number

Not all petitions are guaranteed.. this remains an an example where the Government were not "obliged" to do anything, and was given a dismissal answer
You've lost me. There were more than one petition about letting Trump into the country, and they debated about letting Trump into the country on the basis of a petition? I'm not really sure what the problem is. It might help if you link to the petition that is being ignored.

These seem to spring up all the time and to be honest most of them seem to be someones personal beef with the world and a waste of time but now and then one pops up that hits home .
I've lost count of the amount of times I've gone to my van to get something only to see the back door open or a window smashed ( it must be close to 10 ) Each time stopping me working until i can replace the tools and costing me thousands of pounds every time . How do you pay to replace the tools if you don't have the tools to work with !
Anyway i was made aware of the following petition and thought it was a worth while cause and i hope some of you do too :okay:

Sorry cuchillo, no dice from me I'm afraid:

1. stronger punishment is no deterrent worth speaking about
2. the actual problem being described is how to get the tradesman working again quickly

So if we focus on 2, the point, and the fixable problem, how could the recovery from theft be addressed?

Loan tool sets?
Maybe screwfix could make a set available on production of a police report and an insurance filing?
Community tool sets? Tradesmen keep a pool of old kit available

I would have thought it a sensible and reasonable idea to have an insurance policy which provided replacement tool hire while they assessed your claim. I would, however, expect it to be business rather than home insurance, and I would expect one of the conditions to be don't leave your tools in the van overnight.

Having said that, of course you should be able to leave your tools in the van, and to suggest otherwise is just victim blaming, really.

Yes.

You're never going to get stronger punishments for theft of toolsets.

Even if you did, it wouldn't solve the problem.

...And you think I'm the one detached from reality?
Why not hire places?
They'd have access to the heavier equipment, and possibly any insurance claim for replacement could be dealt with through them.

Unlike a house, a vehicle can simply be driven off/away.

That is why the words "required number" are in blue - it is the way the forum does links

1. The original petition referred to was on change.org
2. You suggested that the Government petition was better as they were "obliged to respond"
3. This is not the case
4. This particular case is an example showing thios
