It's not easy. Partly, ironically, because it is.

In the Dragons Den, one question they always ask is about patents and copyright and that kind of thing. In other words, how easily replicable is your big idea. Because if you can't protect it, what's to stop someone else doing it? Without protection, margins will tend to zero.

And it's not actually that easy. Setting up a store, that actually looks reasonably professional, and works, and takes payment, is a lot of work. Getting it a google ranking that means people will ever find it is a major challenge in itself. Then you have to be willing to take and process orders, and do a helluva lot of packing & posting (you'd be surprised how long that takes in itself).

The other way to do it, of course, is to trade through someone else's portal - ie, become an ebay trader. That gets you instant, easy visibility, and cuts out most of the techy stuff. But it also takes 10-15% off already paper-thin margins.

I quite often buy books on ebay. 99p, + £1.50 or £2 p&p. The sellers have to list, process my order, pack & post, and all to make, what, a quid?

It's possible, but don't for a moment think it's an easy dollar.

From your original post, I thought you were asking about share dealing 'trading' sites...'Forex' is a stock market business innit?

Don't even think of forex trading as a way to make money. You won't. At best you will lose small amounts, at worst you will lose a bundle.
Professional currency traders have instant access to the markets, lots of relevant knowledge and experience, sophisticated trading software and large amounts of cash to play with. I assume you have none of those.

Isn't it also the case that 'amateurs' can only access information that's a few minutes old? Live data has a premium price attached to it.

I agree with this. Forex is too big a market, often counterintuitive and random without professional info for your judgement to play a part.
It makes sense to hedge with it if you have multi ccy income streams but if you want to make money, you have more of a chance playing poker online.
