You've got to admit that Del falling through the bar is a very funny and brilliantly executed piece of slapstick. I put it on my list of top UK TV funny moments of all time, along with the Dad's Army 'Don't tell him Pike' gag and that moment in the British comedy awards when Julian Clary claimed to have been f******g Norman Lamont.

There is some of it that wouldn't be funny on its own, a bloke falls over, but the sense of comic timing makes it ace IMO.

Only fools, best comedy ever. I cant tire of it and I am still watching all the repeats even today. I think if you live in London and London boroughs, you have a better understanding of the humor and slang.

Born and bred and live in London... and still don't find it funny. Not even the Del falling through the bar or chandeliers bits..

Now Porridge.. have to agree with another poster.. that was class comedy.

I think the popular and enduring nature of Porridge compared to OFAH may also be down to it being the only prison comedy in existence?

Ps Bad Girls doesnt count lol!
