Rounding a corner in town this morning, about 200 yds from work, I put the power down and my chain came off, leading to a spectacular fall at about 20mph. I took a big chunk out of my helmet and I'm battered & bruised but otherwise unscathed.

Serves me right - I knew I was due a new chain.

How's the bike !

A cursory look suggested:

- Buckled front wheel
- Torn saddle
- Torn bar grip
- Possible bent crank

Will give it a proper look when I get it home. Won't be riding it anyway this week as my ribs are killing me.

Oh, and we can add bent brake lever to the list of bikewounds.

Getting the train tomorrow.

Haha! I will make no claims to the benefits or non-benefits of helmets. I'll just say that my helmet split upon impact with the road, I've got no head injuries (as far as I'm aware) and I've already ordered a replacement!

I apologise to everyone on the planet for my last comments...I was feeling cranky after being cut-up in Stratford for once.

Joking aside, sorry to hear about this fall.

Ouch! Rather a chunk out of a helmet than a chunk out of your head though.
Hope the bike and you are both in fine fettle again soon.

Cheers all! I feel like I've got full body whiplash, but I'm looking forward to repairing the bike at the weekend and getting back in the saddle on Monday. I've got a mileage target to hit!
