Ooof! Mind your roof rack bikes!

My bikes go on the back of the car. Sea kayaks go on the roof, but at least then you've got two bloody great orange things sticking over your bonnet, so you're more likely to remember you've got them on!

I know somebody who did this too; and it was me. My only excuse was that I was driving from Hertfordshire to Sheffield the same morning I'd returned from an over night flight back from the States.

I've seen a similar thing after a gig when someone loaded their car with amplifiers and didn't check the clearance before slamming the hatchback shut...

I remember way back when we was at the start of a 100k (I think) a bloke pulls up to the car park and we all waved frantically pointing at the height barrier and the bike on his roof bars, so he smiles puts his hand up in thanks and reverses away. Thirty seconds later he drives through the exit barrier wrecking his bike and the gutters on his car. He had thought he was coming through the exit first time and that's what we had meant. He didn't do much riding that day....

I've done that! Into one of those car park barriers. Bike was ok but car had hundreds pounds worth of damage! To add insult to injury, it wasn't even our bike! We were carrying as a favour for a friend!!!

We put a sign on dashboard now as a reminder when we've got bikes on the roof!
