What's the point?

a few yards from a red light, with cycle ASL so I'll be ahead anyway, keeping strong secondary because I know I will need to take primary shortly after the lights due to parked cars

Taxi comes past overtaking with no hope of reaching the lights before even 3/4 of the way past me and of course pulls in.

I was only just starting to raise my hand for the "tap" on the side window (that was my intention so no hard "whacks") when I caught his wing mirror with enough of a whack to fold it in. Totally unintentional and unfortunately he'll probably now be even more "f&@#*%g cyclists" it surprised even me - my arm wasn't even extended, hand was literally next to the bars!

Hand smarted a bit too.

I just don't get the POINT of half-overtaking anything at a red light. What is there to gain?

Hopefully he realise what an idiot he is and how he can't get past a cyclist with only an inch because his spacial awareness isn't as amazing as he seems to think.

I'd of probably asked for his details saying how he hit me and possibly report him to the police

Taxis are normally OK. At least in my experience on my commute. But I had a close one yesterday in Glasgow. I think he was just half asleep and underestimated by speed. Give me a fright though.

But I do find the last minute overtake before TL extremely annoying. I usually just filter past and sit in front of his bumper waiting for the green.

Are you serious? In my experience Taxis are the WORST, least patient drivers! This is typical of what I would expect from them

He overtook you and cut in because he's a taxi, it's what they do, certainly in London at least.

I'm afraid to say that this is my experience too - they are always in a rush to get to their next fare it seems, and have precious little time to do things like "check for traffic" as they pull away from being parked half on the pavement on the zig-zags of a crossing (for example) to do a 180 in the road... a lot of muppet drivers on my route here in Manchester along the Oxford Road.

My most recent interaction with one can be seen here... but there have been many more before I got the camera, and since (but didn't have it running due to one thing or another). ;)

'Tiger. Doesnt matter if you raised you hand to slap the car or not - you could have been raising it to wipe your nose for all he knew. He was too close, write to the Licensing board with your concerns as this is dangerous driving.

Always take two lanes up and pass closely...although that's not all cabbies.

I've had two run in's recently and a very dodgy piece of driving because I was blocking him out riding primary near Bank.

In bold, that is so common of a cab driver.[/QUOTE]

Nearly had a 4X4 taking a visit to the body shop. Any closer I would of been able to make a scratch all the way down the side and jump on to the running boards whilst travelling at speed 25-30mph.

Although I guess it was karma that got me, I was a bit naughty and did pass a car equally as closely whilst filtering through a pinch point.
