Bad mistake from me here. I saw the brake lights come on on the van, but wrongly assumed he was braking for the cyclist I could see ahead of him. Next thing I know the car in front has stopped. I also didn't get on the brakes quickly enough or hard enough. Silly.

Well, yes, but you realised your mistake and apologised immediately, so I'll go with my old mantra of "it's only a mistake if you do it a second time!"

I once nearly crashed into the back of my Dad's car when I was 10. It was raining, we were on holiday in Mull, and my brother and I were cycling down a large hill. My Dad, driving in front of us (obviously) braked for a sharp curve and so naturally, I braked too..... with no real effect in the wet. Luckily with me rapidly sliding towards the boot, my Dad sped off again and a collision was avoided.

Would I have got any sympathy? No, not a bit of it! My Big brother, Mr Perfect, would have slagged me because I didn't brake in time (a lot of old bollox, because, obviously, he would have started to brake about 3 hours in advance and, of course, wouldn't have been in exactly the same situation as myself at all!).

And My Dad would have laughed at me... after making sure I hadn't damaged the back of the car of course!

I did something similar a few months or so ago. Cycling down the road, coming up to some lights and noticed they went amber, however I expected the car in front to go through them instead of brake hard.

Front brake on hard, back wheel off the ground.. I wasn't going to be able to stop in time.. back wheel back on the ground and counter steer around the car.

My fault. I was paying too much attention to the driver behind me who I felt was too close, and wasn't paying enough attention to the immediate danger!

Lesson learnt, and I'm sure the driver behind got a laugh out of it.

Extraordinary! This happens to me all the time when I'm driving. My paintwork and mirrors are threatened daily by the lack of attention paid to the road by hoodie-wearing, drug-dealing yobs on so-called bicycles who (as far as one can tell) don't even pay road tax or have to pass a test.

And what's the result? This sort of haphazard, incompetent tomfoolery on the Queen's Highway!

No wonder our jails are so full! Where will it all end?

(Not really. Everyone has done that. Some of us weren't as quick on the brakes. Top marks for posting it.)

I went into the back of a car at a chicane (priority for oncoming traffic), 'cause I misjudged whether the car a few vehicles ahead would have gone. It was at the grand speed of around 3mph, but the chap in I rode into stopped and checked I was okay, which was nice.

I did also have to overtake two cars waiting behind a bus (which had just pulled over) straight into oncoming traffic because I was cycling far too quickly for the conditions/being a tw*t. Definitely learnt from that one.

On Monday I saw a cyclist slam on the brakes and go over his handle bars to avoid going into the back on another cyclist he was following.

The first cyclist's crime was having the audacity to stop at a red light, which the second cyclist was going to jump.

Seen this a few times over the years on my A21 commute.

Was that 'juddering noise'...

A) ABS
B) Your squeeky bum
C) I need to sort my brakes out  ?

Because the camera is on the frame of the bike, it picks up every little noise and vibration. I've got disc brakes, and that's just the noise they make.
