Today I was out with the club, and everyone started sprinting about 2 miles from the café, I started sprinting as well, got my speed up to about 30mph, and then I came to a 90° bend...

I moved to the right, intending to enter wide and exit on the inside of the road.

What actually happened was I entered wide, too wide, started braking, I saw there were no cars in the opposite lane, so tried to make the most of the other lane, however I crossed it and ended up in the ditch at the side of the road going 20mph...

Luckily I didnt get thrown off the bike, I didnt puncture, and nothing broke!

Here is a picture to demonstrate what happened:

I'm more scared thinking about it after it happened than when it actually happened!

ha ha, bet it was fun though. next time, curb your speed, mind

I'm assuming at that speed the group was broken, in which case you wanted to swing wide as possible before taking a long shallow line through the corner, with full visibility of the post-corner road I'd be using some, if not all, of the opposite side of the road if I thought I was entering a little to hot.

I just figured out where I was when it happened, so here is a screenshot from google maps:

The black line was my intended route, the yellow line was my backup in case a car came, and the (red?) line is my actual route.
Sorry for bumping an old post!
