Hi I've been offered this claud butler off a friend for 200 its two year old but in good condition. Just thinking is it worth the money and getting peoples opinions. I went for a mtb not so long ago but miss the road bike so been looking.
Thanks in advance.

According to bikeradar not a very good buy.

I would save up a little and grab a Triban 500 or 500SE for a little more. the hardware on the Tribans are more upto date and they aint bad as far as road bikes go

The hardware are more up to date, in what sense exactly? Specwise they are pretty much the same, each has a conventional if less common front gearing setup, the only significant hardware difference is the fork material, which is just lighter on the triban but then its 100 quid more. BB

Despite the cost,the Triban's are still a good buy though.
IMO of course.I think they are quite tidy bikes

My bad, I thought the 500s were still running Sora groupsets. Its the 520 that runs Sora and not the 500. 2300's are quite low end as far as groupsets go.

- Doing a little digging, the Triban 500 did originally come kitted with a Sora Groupset before Decathlon switched to Microshift but then i guess they had to make room for the 520 so cannibalised(??? Im not sure if thats the right term to use) the (sora) 500 and kitted it with lesser parts so they could sell more or less the same bike (Triban 520) for more money. Technically speaking. the original 500 is the 520.

mind you i would still take a triple at 50/39/30 over the claud's 52/39 double, for a starter bike.

my old claud had a 52/42/30 which was the best of all worlds. BB

@ruffers

If you dont mind getting a secondhand bike for just a little over the price your friend wanted for his Claude. This here Triban 3 makes a excellent buy

Carbon fork, Triple Chainset, Sora groupset - Stonking deal. Its also a good canvas to do some upgrades when you feel that you want to get more out of your cycling.
