So the cables have got longer!!! ^_^
They started off at 5m, see my earlier post,

Decent speaker cable need not be expensive, I use 4x5m lengths of QED 96 strand (bi-amped set up).....................total cost £20 but every year I cut off the bared section and strip 1/2" of outer and reconnect.

Someone made the point that if the exotic cables do really sound different from ordinary cables, then it's likely they (the posh cables) are actually changing the signal in some way and hence not hi-fi. eg extra capacitance, inductance / strange frequency filtering etc.

I had a demo once of a very very expensive system (£60k for the amps alone - just to be clear I'd bought a minor item and the demo was merely a bit of fun) . The guy was ernestly explaining that the speakers had a frequency response up to 60kHz and somehow that helped the audible effect on the lower frequencies - even though you can't hear that high, and even if you could, there are no signals that high on the recording in the first place. Total BS though the guy earnestly believed this

Were they carrying analogue or digital data?

Analogue. I think even the most gullible here agrees that digital signals are unaffected by cables (unless faulty)
Apparently for optimum results you should soak the cables in vinegar and then bake them.

Wait....sorry, that's conkers.
I heard you had to coat them in batter, then fry them. No wait, that's bollocks.

You've used this GIF a few times to outline your point. You do realise that Jay is as thick as pigpoo and in all likelyhood permanently stoned, don't you?

Or badly designed ...

I remember working on a system with an unreliable digital control connection between 2 racks of equipment. The cable and connectors were in good condition, but the connection was prone to picking up interference which crashed the system several times a day. In the end the problem was solved by upgrading to a twisted-pair cable and differential drivers/receivers. Before the change the office kettle switching off 20 feet away would cause failure. After the robust communication system replaced the dodgy one we could never get it to fail again!

I'm sure I read somewhere that the power needs of the growing number of huge buildings full of web servers are a very significant proportion of global energy consumption!

Some analogue cables do make a difference (copper v silver & solid v stranded core).

Digital cables are all the same, Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Read some of the questions & reviews on this cable here if you want some light relief..

2.0 out of 5 stars Good cable, terrible instructions 13 Jan. 2013

I love this cable. Crystal clear audio and video. My only problem was that the instruction manual was very vague and misguiding. Long story short, I got it stuck in my urethra.
