I'msaving my pennies for a nice shiny new bike, these have caught my eye... Anyone know if they're any good? My lbs has one from last year, equipped with full 105 g/set for under a grand. I am going to have a proper look at it tomorrow lunchtime. View attachment 2307

How did you get on?

If you haven't already committed, I would beat them down on price a lot more  . I don't think they were more than a grand when they were a current model. Are you sure it is full 105? (That doesn't look like a 105 chainset). It will also depend on what wheels are fitted. It is difficult to tell from the photo.

I looked at them last year and was very tempted. From what info I managed to dig up they got pretty good reports.

Gary.

well i went down, but this bike had gone... So it's back to the drawing board. Currently looking at bianchi 1885 veloce and wilier la tristiana mirage which are both half carbon... Not sure i can square the extra £350 to go up to full carbon... But maybe it would be worth it. I guess it depends on how much money i can save up and how prepared i am to lie to my wife about the price... :-)

Hey, just been looking at this model myself, following madone's recommendation... already looking above my budget though ;)

Looks a really nice frame for the price.

Quick newbie question (if I can butt in, sorry), I noticed you can get either a double or triple version - Is this the number of cogs at the front?

If that is the case - i'm gonna be riding a fair few hills, so I presume I would be better off with a triple. ?

Yes, and (IMHO) yes.

You've lost me there mate.

Do you mean the Compact model shouldnt cost more than an Onix Velueta (double version)?

Is the Compact a variation of the Onix btw? Or is it simply called the Orbea Compact??

Sorry, new to all this ;)

the 'compact' bit just refers to the front cogs, it means there are only two cogs, but they're slightly smaller than the standard 'race' setup... On most bikes the compact setup is their most popular model.

Very nice - I have the new (2009) Orbea Onyx frameset and absolutely love it  Personally I am not so keen on the older frame but it's still a nice bike - a mate of mine has one and loves it.
