Keep training ... it's youuuuuuu!!!! (think lottery big finger pointing)
I was out today, as you know. Training hard at 12 point something mph.. Will need to improve to keep up with you and your severely outdated "5 mph" moniker.
Anyhoo ...... you're getting in early with the excuses. "Oooooh I cannae make it, it's my sore back; remember when I hurt it back in September?"
No scuse signora!

Bad news, Pat. A PITB is worse than a PITA, though slightly higher. I don't know what the temperature is like at the moment, but if you've still got high pressure, you'll be having big changes in temperature at this time of year. Your muscles (and possibly your clothing) may still be adjusted to summer so an early chill can create havoc. (This, of course, is because just about every time I've put my back out, it's been when muscles are in warm mode but the weather isn't.)

Get lifting some heavy weights once you're better.

I always used to get a bit of pain in my knee when it's cold from an old football injury, and back pain from a lot of driving at work.

Up to a few years I all I did was ride a bike, but since going back to the gym I haven't had any pains, I'll put it down to strengthening all my muscles and ligaments with weight training.

Take a load of ibuprofen and stick a hot water bottle next to your back. Be very careful with what you do with your back in the next few days. Twenty years ago, I did some muscle thing to my lower back and tried to ignore it. The muscles that keep your spine in alignment didn't hold the vertebrae in place and I ended up with horrendous disc problems for six months. Take it easy and Good luck.

BTW,make sure the hot water bottle isn't too hot. I fell asleep with one next to my bum and got some spectacular burn marks from the rubber ribbing. I got some very odd looks in the swimming pool changing room. They probably thought I was some kind of S&M enthusiast.
