I guess its a case of wearing in my butt to the new saddle!
Maybe.
I'd certainly discourage buying a new saddle until you've exhausted adjustment options on the current one. If you follow that route, you'll have a shed full of part used saddles! Believe me, been there and done that!
Saddles are weird and personal things, and sometimes a law unto themselves. You can't always use the settings from one bike as a guide to another. My Brooks B17N Imperial, for instance, I have set lower than the saddles on my other bikes. Trial and error found that to be it's most comfortable position on that particular bike (probably something to do with frame geometry).
Sore sit bones
could point to a saddle width issue... but, imo, you could try nudging your saddle back a touch to see what that does. When I'm adjusting a new saddle, I sit on the bike and picture what needs to happen to the saddle for me to be comfortable. Sometimes you can slide a little on the saddle until you find the sweat spot, or hang over the back, or sit on the nose... whatever. It HAS to be worth a go before pulling the credit card out!
