I showed that exact clip to my son a couple of weeks ago after he didn't seem to grasp the importance of looking where he was going on our ride to his nans house!

Weird how this is going around again, unless you know someone I know that just cycled in to the back of a huge stationary wagon a few days ago, nothing broken except his rear wheel and helmet.
Extremely lucky boy.

I've seen that before, but never really paid attention. He appears to have cut his face, and deffo seems badly shaken, which is unsurprising.

Did anyone on any of the forums own up to being this bloke?

I did that about 45 years ago into the back of a beetle, it was into a very aggressive headwind & I had my head down

Scarily Ive heard about a few folk TT'ing and doing similar

Edit: Just remembered I put a break lever into the back of a Merc once. The driver thought it was a good idea to slot into the gap between our peletons. I was the lead of the second peleton when the driver realised he had to brake. My brakes weren't as good so he decided to push my brake lever harder with his boot  Fortunately I brake from the hoods.

My son did this aged about 9 on our shared drive straight into the back of our neighbour's car.
Fortunately, the neighbour (through gritted teeth, I suspect!) was very understanding!

How was his front wheel ok? I hit a moped at about 8mph a few years ago (2014) and buckled the front wheel (The only front wheel I've ever buckled in a collision)....Moped was stationary in traffic and I had dodgy brake blocks in the wet and a new painted rim on the back on the other fixie.Of course after that I binned the brake blocks and bought better ones.

I did much the same, down our road, when I was about 11 years old, on my hated Raleigh Twenty. I was a bit grazed, car was fine and there wasn't a mark on that dang bike. I was looking behind me, for my friend, instead of looking forward at the road.
I didn't hit the car at the sort of speed shown in the vid.

In the wake of Mike Halls accident someone was trying to claim that it is always the car drivers fault. I posted this clip and asked what the car could have done to avoid it, apart from parking his car.

The other golden nugget that came up in the same conversation is that on the road a car is a weapon and a bike is a bike. I had to point out that a car is a form of transport. but if i intentionally use it to run into you, it then becomes a weapon. In the clip shown, its a car. For the cyclist, it is not a weapon. It is an obstacle he failed to negotiate.

I've done that too in 1970 I rode straight into the back of a Ford Escort riding the Kingpin. I must've been tired because I thought the car was moving. It was parked outside a Wimpy on the A404 near Kensal Green.

The only thing damaged was my pride and a small dent in the car bumper. The owner came out and had a rant, I was so scared I just pedalled off.
