Enjoyed the commute home last night even though it was chucking it down. Apart from the bit where I fell off my bike. Approaching the ASL at a red light, there was a puddle just where the filter lane joins the ASL. I am aware that there is a rather uneven manhole cover there but it is obscured by the puddle. Anyway, I am very gingerly trying to avoid the puddle/manhole cover and stop in the ASL when whooosh, my bike goes from under me and I bump down on my right side in front of a taxi. A bit bruised - my body as well as my ego - but otherwise OK, and I jumped up and carried on (when the lights changed to green).

Cheers to the cyclist behind me who enquired after my welfare.

Embarrassment and frustration. Embarrassed to topple off for no apparent reason (and almost stationary at the time) and frustrated because I was very carefully trying to avoid that very outcome!

Sometimes it's better to ride straight over something rather than go for a late swerve in the wet, the llast time I very very nearly lost the back in the wet was a high speed swerve around a manhole

Good rule of thumb is "Ignore anything less than 3 ft from your wheel, as its too late to do anything about it". I suppose you can still bunnyhop at that point, but not on my bike
