Carry a kit and spare tubes. Get good at it, and a fix in 5 mins.

After an horrendous day in Spain when wife had 2 punctures on her electric bike and we ran out of spare tubes
I invested in Schwalbe Marathon tyres and slime filled tubes-we've had no punctures in 2 yrs and the ride is so much better.
When I recently bought a fixie I did the same and noticed immediate improvement in the rid.

bought those for tyres for the mtb as they were supposed to have good puncture resistance, didn't get riding it for long enough to test out the claim ( that bike only lasted 5 weeks, tyres were only on it for 4)

did you buy the pre treated tubes with the slime or the bottles of slime & do it your self?

im now thinking about getting the bottle slime & treating the new bike before i ride it so im protected from the 1st ride then keeping a new normal tube as a spare just incase i got a puncher that needed a patch.

ya know, it seems sometimes if i didn't have bad luck id have no luck.

bought a mountain bike turned out to be crap, got refund & bought another bike just under 48 hrs till i pick it up & youngest daughter slams car door closed on my hand. Little finger & ring finger of left hand broken & middle finger sprained.

the obvious ah s#*t popped into my head as i felt the bones crack quickly followed by a rather surprising thought of "ah great i wont be able to ride the bike on tuesday", reminded me of an accident i had when i was 17 on the motor bike, when returning from the bike shop after fitting a new mirror to the bike i got hit from the side by a car as i bounced across the road i saw the new mirror bounce in the opposite direction and thought that was a waste of money, not that the bike was now damaged, or there was now a car heading towards my head, no my only thought at that time was the mirror i had just paid for & fitted had broken off.

Strange the things that pop into your head in certain situations.

at the time i thought about not being able to ride the bike my fingers were still trapped inside the car door while my wife was running around the car to open the door again, i couldn't reach the handle as the hand was stuck half way down the pillar that separates the front & back doors ( i had just leaned into the front of the car when my daughter slammed the back door & i couldn't reach the handle ) so 3 & half hrs in A&E busted fingers all strapped up & still in more annoyed that i wont get to ride my new bike on Tuesday.
