Snap - I did the same tour with a few minor differences a month earlier, in July 2005.
I drove up to Oban & left the car there. Then took the ferry and rode along the Outer Hebrides and visited St. Kilda. Got the ferry back to Ullapool, rode down the Great Glen back to Oban, and finished off with a couple of short rides at Callander & Edinburgh, before driving back south.
My basic data is attached plus a couple of photos. For Northern Scotland the weather was good that year with inland lochs at low level due to drought. It was windy but any one else attempting this ride, should go South to North up the islands and they will have the wind behind them most of the time.
