Overly sensitive?

Just flicked on the TV. Emmerdale was about to begin, but not before the announcer gave a dire warning that tonights episode contains "threat and menace".

Now, we're use to warnings about sex and violence, and consequently anything too sexy, violenty or sweary tends to get consigned to the post watershed period. Fair enough.

But warning us about threat and menace? Are there people out there really that sensitive? Where does this end? Will there be warnings for vegetarians that tonights episode contains images of someone eating a corned beef sandwich? A warning for patriots that in tonights Corrie Ken Barlow is seen driving a Korean car?

Are these warnings now getting a bit silly?

I listen to podcasts which are quite clearly aimed at adult ears.
There is a tendency for some to offer trigger warnings at the start of some subjects will be discussed in case you will be offended. It does seem a bit overkill in most instances.
People seem unable or unwilling to listen to anything that may offend them.

You mean the 1970's ? The last time we had an old Labour government .

Emmerdale should come with the warning that its hammy and that its like a schoolkids production.

Blimey - if you think that's bad you should try Hollyoaks.
Which also carries a seemingly obligatory warning about "issues" that are coming up in virtually episode (This episode features scenes some viewers may find distressing, as Sienna stubs her toe on the end of the bed), with an offer of "support if you've been affected by the issues raised" at the end of the episode.
Or alternatively, just remind yourself that it's all pretend....
