Overtaken!!!

I was on the mountain bike taking the back route home over the track the other day when I caught the glimpse of a yellow high viz dissapear round the corner in front. GAME ON!
He was a good bit in front of me and I had to put everything into it to get near him. I was right behind him when I had to slow to cross a road. He heard my brakes squeal and looked round to see my race face. He knew my intentions so flew accross the road infront of the car I had to stop for. I had to start all over again and finally passed him just before we entered a residential area. I followed the roads to where the track starts again but just before I got to the track the he comes flying out from a pathway beside a house and regains the advantage. (good local knowledge) I caught up with him again but decided to say hello, so we chatted the rest of the way home. Next time Im taking the short cut and leaving him for dust.

In the summer, after some fettling on the wife's Pashley trike, i decided to use it for a couple of commutes to see if my fettling was helping. On the way home I managed to overtake a road bike.
I was dead impressed - admittedly it was an elderly gent on a ancient bike
(and he was pulling away from a set of lights) - but I'd been catching him for a while.
The old trike has a slight left lean on it - one of the back wheels is probably a subtly different shape than the other. If I'm not concentrating and permanently turning slightly right, it veers left.
Unfortunately, I was so impressed with having overtaken him, that 200yds later I wasn't paying attention and promptly veered left, mounted the pavement and nearly fell off!

interesting GRHM, having read a few of these sort of posts I wonder if some accidents may have a root cause in unofficial racing. I know I can't spare the attention from the road/traffic torace. Decent, and more experienced, cyclists wouldn't have the same issues but it only takes one lapse

A very valid point, whilst most enjoy the thrill of secret racing commuter or otherwise how many consider the potential risks, over at BR those of us who regularly post have a strict set of rules no. 1 of which is safety first, it's amazing how many of our fellow cyclist behave like the worst kind of complete and utter nobs putting themselves and those around them in danger.
For my part I live in the middle of nowhere and hardly ever see other cyclists on my commute and only occasionally on training rides, so for the most part I race against myself - I am/was a slave to the GPS tracker.

The barsteward would spend the rest of the ride half-wheeling everyone and frequently sprinting off on hills dropping everyone.!
Never did find out who he was.... probably an elite racer
Love it... if I had the ability i'd totally do that. There are stories of a MTBer in London who cruises at 30mph wearing trainers

Since gaining the new bike the ammount of people who just have to get past no matter what. There was one this morning, nearly got himself killed going through a red lgiht, just to get past me lol. Made me chuckle as i sat on the lights and watched him peddeling furiously on his MB at 100,000 peddals per minute.
Ps think i passed someone on the same bike last night too! grrrr, going through the meat market by fabric wher the guard always tells you to get off your bike lol. Didnt realise he has same bike till just after. Reason being both bikes are realy fast and its like a scene from top gun at the end when they go head to head with the Migs lol. (which arent migs btw)
