So are you complaining about the price of a tart you intended to split three ways, were having it bought for you, and didn’t get it any way, or because you are from Yorkshire and it’s expected?

As you mentioned "specs", I was due for ane eye test.

On offer, were two for one specs from £79.
I choose ones that were nearer £100, still good value, two pairs for £100, I thought.

But then they offer you anti this and non scratch that etc and before you know, the two pairs cost over £200!

I do sometimes wonder how any businesses remain solvent in "God's Country".

What went on in their golden age? Were the only trades growing your own food, and selling wool/coal to the wealthy/wasteful South?

No there were trades like Patty slappers in Hull😉

All high street coffee chains are a rip off. £8-9 or so for bad coffee and mass produced pastries. My local independent coffee shops are 15-20% cheaper, serve coffee that high streets can't even be compared to and bake all their own pastries and cakes onsite.

I once read a mag. article on how tykes got their “thrifty” rep,. It seems that the woolly business was considered to be nearly all men’s work, so the women folk stayed at home to make puddings, while salt of the earth Lankies worked in the cotton industry where women and men could both find work. Come the wakes weeks, the Lankies could afford to go to Blackpool or Southport and have a good spree, while the tykes had to be careful with their money to make it last.

When I was young and rich, I used to get designer glasses from SS and had the anti scratch coating, non-glare coating and all the rest at considerable price. Now I'm middle-aged and poor, I go for the bog standard ones without any coating at all and have noticed bog-all difference

My mum took her niece to a garden centre at the weekend. A ticket to see "Santa" which included a rubbish plastic toy, was £20. My mum refused to pay it. I even refused to pay a fiver when my boy was young but these days a fiver isn't that bad. but £20 is taking the mick

I refuse to use any coffee shop that's insists a black coffee is called an Americano it's a black coffee, simple. This is pretty much all of them of course so I usually have a flask on a ride. When did a simple hot drink become something that required a menu.
