Have been lucky enough to avoid the fairy for months, so much so that when I had a lot to carry this morning, I decided to forego the spare tube rather than use the bigger bag. Big mistake.

A mile from home the fairy struck, and a split not a puncture. No chance of a road side fix without the spare. Walked back home with my tail between my legs and drove in. :-(

Drive in....oh no - five mins to repair.

Also helps having a spare bike or three.........

Would have been less than a five minute job, but was already running late so car was the best option. At the time.

The salt in the wound was arriving to find our servers have crashed - internet access but nothing more. May as well have stayed at home and fixed the bike.

As you get on the chances of going out without tyre levers or a pump increase. And here's the rub. I have never, ever had a puncture or a mechanical on those occasions when I've been so silly as to leave the neccessary stuff behind. Ever. In decades. I've broken wheels, but always a walk from home (after 120 miles) or at a railway station, or by a bike shop (in the Outer Hebrides!!!)

(of course, it helps to pray every night for ill fortune to be visited on the other guy. Anybody will do, but the face of Bo comes high on the list)

Just got back home and fitted the spare tube - it was a damn nail. God knows how it managed to split the tube, but it did.

Ah well - I've learned my lesson. Spare tube is in the bag for tomorrow.

Had a double visit from this annoying wee shite once on the way to work and yes on the way home .Happily i carry a spare inner so no real problems except it was pissing down coming home, if you use the north edinburgh cycle route it can a be a fairly regular occurence so you get used to it ..smile it's all you can do
