I decided to try some 3/4 length tights from Aldi when they had them in a few weeks ago to see how it went. Sort of finding them OK but still not finding the pad completely comfortable - there seems to be too much of it. Is it something I will get used to - or if I'm not finding it too bad is it worth swapping to a more expensive brand with a bit less pad?

Specifically I am finding that there is too much pad at the front so that it bulges away from my body (interesting look;)) , and that the back of the pad somehow catches on the seat sometimes.

I think they might soften and mould to you better after a few wears.
I have padded pants that fit inside my shorts - pearl izumi no less - and they seem to be padded in the wrong places too so I don't think it matters how much or little you spend.

I misread the first sentence and thought it said: "I think they might soften and mould to you better after a few years."

Whilst not being a lady, I have tried Aldi's 3/4 length tights. I find that they're cut very badly, and the pad does as you describe - bulging away from the body. Other, more expensive, brands, don't have this issue. Altura 3/4 length tights, for example, fit nicely.

When I got back into cycling about 15 years ago I used a couple of 50p Ikea neoprene mouse mats cut to shape and stuffed down the back of my jeans as it was cheaper then padded shorts!
It didn't work very well so I invested in padded shorts from a bike shop. They didn't work either.

A padded gel saddle worked though, and it means I don't have to think about what I am wearing when go for a ride!

Got the same as you, @summerdays, on a whim, after a particular rough canal ride.
Don't like the feeling at all, like "cotton wool stuffing" down below
I really need a tie up waste thingmy, lacking on those shorts.
Back to my normal unpadded leggings/jeans.
If I manage one day to unearth some comfy padded stuff from TKMax I will post the brand.
