I was listening to a R2 phone in about this earlier.....they had a Doctor in.
By a strange coincidence i had my first ever one yesterday evening.
I have read about them previously and had a good idea what was happening.
It was for all the world like I imagine a heart attack to be with palpitations, heart racing etc.....quite scary when it was happening.
Fortunately i have just had my HR and BP etc checked out and all is good.....therefore I was able to accept what was happening and wait it out. Sure enough it gradually eased off though it took (i think) about 20 minutes.
I could also rationalise things and believe that with losing my wife, recent health hiccups and Wednesdays coming eye op it all combined to cause the episode.
I have been fine since and (apart from Wednesday) I feel relaxed as normal.

Alison Hammond is reported to have had a panic attack last week. Probably why it was on the radio.

Yep, once. It started weird. I became increasingly aware of people around me, and then more so. I actually felt as though the room (a large museum entrance hall) was getting smaller. Then the light seemed to get dimmer. Then I was just overwhelmed by sensation and I ran, there was no other thought in my mind but getting outside. I was full flight in the grip of panic.

Once outside, I calmed and 'came down'. My heart was pounding and I was breathing quickly. I've no idea what happened, it was out of nothing. I've a suspicion that light played a part. The museum hall was dimly lit with fluorescent type lights (leds, I don't know) I recall there being like a strange refraction going on.

I have anxierty issues and I suspect I've had what might be called anxiety attacks, but this was the first (and hopefully only) I've had what I'd categorically call a panic attack. I'd lost all sense of reason. I was gone.

I have had them off and on throughout my life!

The first time I came to Yorkshire was in my mid-20s, to visit friends in Haworth. We went to Keighley railway station at the end of my visit and I joined a long queue to buy a ticket. I got more and more agitated at the length of time that it was taking and I eventually fled from the building. I had to get one of my friends to buy the ticket for me because I couldn't face going back in.

I have a history of fainting when having medical things done to me - dental surgery, injections, and even... having my blood pressure taken, x-rays, and once just having an eye test!! A nurse spotted what the problem was when I was in hospital suffering from blood clots - when I get anxious, the anxiety overcomes my breathing reflex; I literally stop breathing until I pass out! Now that I know that, I try to remember to TEBTDMWBD**, which usually works!

The Doctor on R2 said to think of things like fluffy rabbits and teddy bears. I suppose that fits with your TEBTDMWBD

There used to be a big warehouse (tools and household stuff) outside Warrington and the lightning would send my wife loopy and close to fainting. It was a regular visit for us. Then they changed the lighting. It took 2 visits to realise it so from then on she had to wait in the car.

Yes when I in the midst of divorce and I was out running and I'd have dark thoughts and my breathing went AWOL (possibly liked with doing speed sessions) and I had to stop and calm down otherwise I would have been one the front of a HGV....
