The Kick stand is on the left of all bikes because the chain is on the right

Hence the proper place to put a single pannier is on the left
I've never used a bike with a kick stand so this is a genuine question: Surely if the bike is already leaning to the left adding a weighted object on the left hand side is just likely to tip it over, whereas adding the weight on the right side will counterbalance the tilt and make the parked bike more stable>

I take the right one all the time, the left one just for when I plan a trip to the off licence, love it how anyone is a shop asks you how you plan to carry 2 bottles of wine, 8 cans and numerous other bits of crap on a bike !

You are correct in that assumption. I have a rear stay propstand. If I put the pannier on the left the bike tips over when you use the propstand, so if you put it on the right side the bike stays upright.

I use the left when monobagging for no other reason than the bike lives with it's right side against the wall when indoors.

YH long time no hear. Are your Ortliebs and Madison Summit rack proving a good choice? Ortlieb panniers are reversible so each pannier can go on either side though you might have to reverse the lower hook if swapping sides.

Single panniers are the work of the Devil.... If we were meant to have single panniers they would not be sold in pairs!

Not mockery at all - it simply is a travesty and a corruption of all things British!

(You could of course do it politically?

Labour voters left and Tory voters to the right)

mine was sold singularly, why would anyone want a pair of laptop briefcase panniers?

it also goes on the right as thats the only side it fitted without me kicking it or having to alter the fixings.

"Proper" commuting bikes (and touring bikes) of course have a kick stand on the rear quarter triangle.

The Kick stand is on the left of all bikes because the chain is on the right

Hence the proper place to put a single pannier is on the left

This also has an added advantage when walking with the bike (as all regular commuters do at some point in their comute ) you walk on the same side as the pannier (to get things out), the kick stand (to stand up the bake) and the pavement side (for safety) and the lifting side (for going up stairs) and you don't get your trousers covered in chain oil.

Therefore, for commuting purposes there is only one side, the left side.

A further advantage is the pannier remains cleaner on left side as it does not get sprayed with chain oil or passing car slush

but i walk with my bike to my left, i put my right foot down when stopped at junctions and have always leant my bike up with the gears facing outwards and want to be able to get stuff out of the pannier
