I wish there was ANY kind of parking enforcement in my local area. Traffic Wardens were done away with years ago in the council spending cuts. Police are not interested as parking matters have been de-criminalised across Scotland so it is a civil matter.
The result? Parking anarchy everywhere (apart from Glasgow and Edinburgh where Traffic Wardens are still employed). Yellow lines mean nothing when they are not being enforced. Try getting parked anywhere in our town centre area after 0845 and it is impossible. Office and shop staff park where there is a 30 minute restriction and leave their cars there all day, so that potential customers cannot find a space and take their business elsewhere. Then they complain that businesses are on their knees.
If there are no spaces on the yellow lines, then the pavement is the next option, even if it narrows the road to single file traffic.
Selfish, arrogant, lazy nobbers, the lot of them. Bring back the Wardens, I say. And see how the idle motons like getting £60 tickets once more .
Aberdeen has loads of traffic wardens, and our parking restrictions go well outside the city center. It's one of the reasons I started cycling to work.

And also whale harpoonist!

People should not be allowed to own a car if they don't have a drive to park it on.
WTF.? You've just consigned anyone who is unfortunate enough to not be able to afford a place in suburbia to be a non car owner. I live in a flat, and have no drive, same as most of the population around here. So we shouldn't be allowed to own a car under Tin Pot's dictatorship. Yet I assume it is OK for the landed gentry to come in from suburbia and park their cars on the street outside my flat while they go about their business? Smacks a bit of hypocrisy.

Good luck with the job selection process @classic33 . Get on yer bike and throw those tickets around like confetti! If they don't park illegally, then they won't get tickets. Simple. (Errm; but have some sympathy for the truck and taxi drivers trying to load and offload, but cannot do it legally because of lazy b'stards in cars using the loading facilities. Been there, done that - as an occasional truck/taxi driver ).

So parking illegally is OK as long is it's you doing it?

I find I have mixed emotions on the subject of car ownership and drives etc. on the one hand I don't want to see every front garden concreted over to provide parking, but equally I don't want them cluttering up the roads. In the past I lived near one of those developments where they only provided one space (on the road in parking bays), and the end result is people parking is places they shouldn't, which causes problems including for ambulances. And then you get those very large vans which don't fit onto a drive and so block the pavement.

The Mrs and I ensured that we live in a home (albeit in the middle of a council estate) that can accommodate a minimum of two cars on the driveway because most of the week that is where they stay due to us cycling or running to work.

I appreciate of course that many people cannot afford to live in such a home but hope that they are sensible enough, and able, to park legally close to where they live.
