I asked whether, due to the fact that I cycle rather than drive, if it would be seen as a cyclist getting their own back on motorists. Who just happen to park illegally.

I suppose it depends on if you describe yourself as a cyclist, rather than someone who gets to work by bike? I don't even think of myself as a cyclist, same as I don't think of myself as a driver. It's not my defining feature and has nothing to do with anything really.

Car insurance covers you whilst driving to work, but not usually for using it once at work.

If you have to drive to your central office in the morning then you have driven to work, if from there you drive to a remote location I'm sure that would be classed as business use and not covered by your insurance,

You may need Class 1 Busniess Use cover as explained here.

Many underwriters don't charge for it provided you add it at renewal rather than mid term. we've had a case at work where someone crashed driving to a meeting and they didn't have Class 1 cover and the claims people are making it ugly for our person.

I occasionally go for meetings a couple of miles away from where I work. I always bike there, most others go in a taxi paid for, of course, by our employers.

I never even thought to check with the boss if I'm allowed to ride in the course of my work. I just slope out!

Is there not some kind of car insurance question there, as in using your car for business purposes?

Absolutely there is, people driving their own vehicles for work purposes may find their insurance void if it's realised that the journey was one necessitated by work and not social /domestic /pleasure driving. (ie a trip not to or from work but one done as part of your job)
