Yesterday, on the way home from work, a car hung well back behind me for quite a while before the road widened sufficiently for them to pass me safely. I did give them a little wave of thanks but I guess they probably just wondered who they hell I was.

This morning I passed the karma on.

I was in a bus lane approaching lights. A car in the regular lane was indicating a right turn into a side street so I held back and when the lights changed I waited a moment to let him turn in front of me. That driver did give me a wave.

And hopefully he did something courteous to someone else down the road (maybe another cyclist?)

Paying it forward. I don't like Americanisms generally, but have to say the sentiment about doing good deeds for others is something that is missing from 21st Century life.

I always give a "Thank You" wave when I think someone has held back for me. Sometimes I get a wave back, other times I don't, either way I fell good

me too. Especially if you do the same route every day, it's likely they do too and hopefully they'll continue being nice if you show some appreciation.

Driver did that to me on the way back from work today. Gave him a thumbs up and he waved back in acknowledgment. Nice guy.

I've had far more good experiences with motorists, than bad. It's a shame the very small minority of bad experiences are the ones we remember the most.

Once, upon reaching a 4-way stop at the same time as a big Harley Davidson motorcycle, I waited for him to go first, but he waved me on with a shout of "Clean power first!" Made my day!

Leeds Ring road yesterday. We were waiting for lights to change.
Female driver 4x4 brushing her fingers through her hair both hands ,holding the steering wheel with her thighs.Whilst driving through the junction across us.

Complete and utter madness.

I think I did my bit this morning. Had to get into the right hand lane at a junction to turn, so looked, signalled and moved over into the middle of the lane. The driver who had been in that line, far enough behind me for me to move over, clearly wasn't too impressed with something as slow as a bike holding him up, and sat grumpily over my back wheel.

As soon as I had turned and it was safe I took a less prominent line and as he passed waved my thanks. He smiled, waved and gave a nice wide berth to the two cyclists up ahead of me. I didn't see what they did with the passed-on karma!

I do the old pay it forward thing... for every nice thing that someone does for me, I try to do 3 nice things for other people. If everyone did it, it would be a nice world...

As for cyclists, I was the chap doing the holding back on Tues morning - coming up to a nightmare junction - held back and kept the traffic at bay for the cyclist in front of me so he had a clear run at it. He noticed what I was doing, so when we'd finished negotiating the junction he gave thumbs up and said thanks - nice bike too.
