Paul Heaton doing cycling tour of Northern 'locals'! Brilliant. Great singer/songwriter - and cyclist! Had a few drunken conversations with him in Hull back in the day too -top bloke. And he loves cycling. http://www.thepublican.com/story.asp?sectioncode=7&storycode=66114

This may be of special interest to the East Yorkshire massive: I have made a selection for the '10 Miles from Beverley' request, but I am not telling anyone until I know I have a ticket!

I know people who know him better than I do - I will keep you posted. He did stop drinking for a while, but hopefully he is drinking. In a sensible, adult, moderate manner of course.

Ooh, we live near Otley - this would be awesome having seen The Beautiful South at St George's Hall at Bradford a few years back, I can guarantee a good bash! Never knew he was a cyclist too, who knew?!

Er...that's a sore point. The New Beautiful South are practically a covers band - the song writers are not in the band, and obviously Heaton's distinctive vocals are missing. It's a sore point because, true to his political ideals, Heaton split the royalties of the South: he now wants to move on, but other members of the band want to get back together. The South have a wide fan base, so they will probably do OK with those wanting to have a good old singalong. I don't see the point myself. There has been quite a stir on his FB page - he is not on as Paul Heaton - as he is not happy. And you can see his point - he and Rotheray wrote the lyrics, his voice was distinctive. Like Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton without Weller (in From the Jam) it is a bit embarrassing.

Plus the original lass who sung on the album, can't remember her name, but she left soon after IIRC.
