Next season you will have to give lots of money to Sky/News International to watch some F1 GP's.

The BBC have obviously spent/going to spend lots of money on the Olympics so they decided F1 should be shared with a pay tv platform.

I never get to watch the live broadcast anyway these days so presumably we can all still watch the highlights on the BBC?
Wouldn't consider paying Sky £40 a month + the rest to watch sports.

If the Beeb has any sense at all it just avoids the overseas early morning races and the crap circuits like the Spanish GP and Bahrain - job done.

Known for sometime something like this would be on the cards. Not the details. It still sucks.

My immediate thoughts are how are the 7 races done. Does the BBC get first dibs? Does it get the dregs? A mix?

If it was China, Turkey (know that's going), France, Europe, Singapore, Korea and Abu Dhabi that would be rather worse than some other lists you could devise imho.

The Beeb have secured that non-overtaking procession called Monaco - no surprise there then...

I'll probably end up watching it online - there'll be plenty of sites streaming it.

If the price from mr greedy Bernie is too high for the BBC, they should simply drop-it. Use the money to find and promote other sports. We used to have far more variety, Speedway, Showjumping, Gymnastics, Greyhound racing, Sailing etc. even Sumo was popular for a while. Motorcycle road-racing is a far more ballsy and exciting race than F1 but outside of Northern Ireland rarely gets a showing. Hell we could even have Nascar to doze in front of.

The consensus on the F1 forum is better to drop it than have half a season of races. Particularly if they are made up of the circuits that are "boring" (sic.)

Someone mentioned that the move to Salford has cost the Beeb in the region of £900 million. That's a lot of programming whichever way you look at it.

I already pay the BBC every year. I'd rather they didn't use a sizeable slice of their income on F1 personally, though I can see it matters to a lot of other folk. (Is the viewing demand for F1 that high? The BBC seems to talk about it a lot in recent times - not sure if this is as a reflection of actual high viewing interest or an attempt to drum up viewers in order to justify their spending).
