My thoughts are that it is a problem with the driver, in which case downloading the driver from the manufacturers website and replacing the existing one may produce a result.

What worries me is the 'funny noise' which might point to a hard disk error, Running the hard disk utilities mat help and if there is a problem with the hard disk Spinrite may be a good option.

Anyway, nothing would work, couldn't even get System Restore so I did a full re-install of the OS including Windows 10. All afternoon effing about, but now we're up and running again.

Could be that there was a dodgy spot on the disk & reinstalling everything put the driver somewhere different.

Now all you have to do is back up all your files and stash them on a memory stick somewhere. Oh, I forgot....it's working right now.......no need to bother...:whistle:

All important files backed up regularly onto a memory stick, then loaded onto my backup laptop and again onto Mrs SJ's laptop. I believe in two pairs of braces along with the belt.
