PC sound output to sound bar question

Any PC sound experts out there? I set my PC up to play sound through the sound bar connected via HDMI cable. Sound bar is also connected to TV via HDMI cable. Everything was working well, I duplicated the screen display with the TV, so I could listen to music via the sound bar without the TV on, or if I turned on the TV I could watch I player, movies etc via the PC, great. Seemed to sort itself out whether the TV was on/off. However just recently this arrangement doesn't work quite so well, the only way I can get sound from the PC to play is with the TV screen on as well, which is a minor inconvenience (1st world problem some might say) but not with the sound bar only. Windows 10 running.

How many hdmi outs does your pc have, how many hdmi ins does your soundbar have, is the PC connected to the soundbar through an audio only hdmi connection or is it through a graphics card with hdmi audio enabled? Is the TV connected to the soundbar through the tvs hdmi out or in?

I think the PC has three HDMI out connections (it's inside a desk so I'd have disconnect everything and pull it out to look), there are three hdmi inputs into the sound bar. The pc is connected to the sound bar through a graphics card.. I think (I got it to work by selecting duplicate display). There is one HDMI output/input connector for the TV on the sound bar.

Bluetooth is ok but the sound is much better via HDMI
