PC 'Stretched'

PC gone to wife's IT consultant for a good kicking, so l'm using this hunk of junk iPad

Trying to beat it, before it crashes all time

I had chance to go round & pick it up this morning
All pictures/documents still, seeming in situ^_^

However, all (hundreds?) 'bookmarks' disappeared, but I suppose that's a small price?

BUT, the display seems 'stretched'/oversized, & unless I'm being more of a 'techno-luddite' than normal, I can't see what to do to restore back to a normal situation

('zoom', using the 'cog' symbol, is at 100% - was 125% before, & was fine)

Thanks in advance

you need to change the screen resolution, what operating system does it run, windows 7 etc, you should be able to right click on your desktop and there should be an option for screen resolution

Right click anywhere on desktop, select screen resolution, set resolution to 1280 x 800 see how that looks , if happy click "save changes".

We have a member of staff at work with visual problems, and awaiting specific adaptations.

In the meanwhile we use the resolution to improve things for her

Yes, that page sums it up well.
(Just don't scroll down to Instagram woman of the week, complete with implants, if anyone's looking over your shoulder)

Have the correct graphics drivers been installed?
go to start, control panel, device manager, look for display adapters, click on the arrow and see what it says, If it shows "standard vga adapter or similar the chances are it will need the display driver updating."

Setting the resolution won't cure a stretched picture, a stretched picture is due to the horizontal size not being matched by the vertical size in pixels Have you uploaded Widows 10? What is your Operating Sytem XP Vista W7 W10. Have you tried something as simple as System Restore? Stretched pic below should be 450 x 450, I've forced it to 450 x 200 pixels.

Puzzle game procrastinator!
Nope!!

The best description, I can give is that it looks like it's on a flat piece of latex (or balloon), and is streteched, laterally - but it's also as though the centre of the image is bulging too
It isn't an old CRT-based monitor is it? (As opposed to a more modern LCD type) That sounds like the kind of hardware fault that the old technology used to develop.

I don't suppose you can film yourself struggling manfully with it, then post the resultant vid on here..?

I ask because some people's "default" or "preferred" screen resolution is not what the monitor's native (designed) resolution would be. Therefore we don't know what you would previously have considered "normal". So film yourself and with a running commentary of the issues...

As for the bookmarks disappearing, do you mean the ones on Chrome? Or Internet Explorer? Or on "Computer"? Because the fix if there is one would be different for each case.

I don't think "System Restore" would be classed as "simple" to the OP (with the greatest of respect to the OP) - and anyway it depends if they set a Restore Point previously, doesn't it?

PS surely it *might* cure a stretched picture to change/set the resolution if the aspect ratio of the current resolution is not the same as the aspect ratio that the monitor/display was set to when the picture was made into the Windows Wallpaper?
