The secure clips are fitted to make it easier to remove the back wheel. With track ends and mudguards you either use secure clips or fit the mudguards with a wide clearance to give you clearance to take the wheel out.

You're right, I never thought about rear wheel removal, I haven't had a fixed wheel bike yet, as I can't decide between a cyclocross bike or a fixie. Just trying to help.

indeed, smooth welds. Pay for a decent alu frame and it will be like this.
