Pedal shaft for old dawes racer wanted

Hi I'm new here so hope this is in the right area.I am looking g for a pedal shaft for an old Dawes racer.Any idea where I might find one or suitable replacement.The pedals are held onto the crank with a large nut approx 17mm.Any help appreciated

Can you attach a picture? "Pedal shaft" isn't a cycling term. I think it might be the crank.
