Surely recount should be hyphenated? Re-count.
[/quote]
No, it should not and is not hyphenated.

Are you offended by it? Dyslexia has been around since the dawn of time but, as I previously asked, why has there been a marked increase in recent times? Have the goalposts been moved?
The same could be said of Autism and Allergies. Maybe the goalposts have been moved and probably that's a good thing.

Simply -like many other conditions professionals are better at diagnosing and testing fot it nowadays. My Gran used to comment no one died of cancer in her day, though talking to her it's amazing how many died of consumption and unexplained fevers.

Not to mention a touch of the vapours ....

I owe somebody here an apology tonight.

Sometimes one feels the need to try and make a bit of a stand. It's concerning the state of written English, spelling and punctuation used on the forum and whether we think it's important or not. I'm by no means perfect and constantly strive to improve, but occasionally there are some shockers and maybe I'm getting more sensitive to them.

Do the panel think we should point-out (in a nice way), particularly poor English usage such as lack of capitals etc?
Should we correct common spelling errors, especially those pertaining to cycling such as Peddles and Breaks?
Pedantry of this sort was in the past part and parcel of forum life, but it seems to have declined, maybe it's good, maybe not.

Yes, I am fully aware of issues such as Dyslexia, being the parent of a sufferer.

So, while I sit back and await a critique of the above .....

Am I an insensitive Wayne-Kerr or should we strive to improve?

Fire-away.

Thread equate, is this a middle class c.o.u.p.

A subtle form of mind control, over the young.

When we post are we not looking for attention and acceptance?
If so, then every single post has the underlying intent of striving to be accepted.
If this is true, are not the middle class guilty of, trying to make and control, a thread equate. Trying to control the young,s; attempts to gain experience, opportunity, and common ground with there fellow man. Thread equate will disadvantage the young because lack of formal writing skills. This will enable the middle class to put there ideas, across with less competition. If so, there views will dominate the forums, giving a strong pecking order, it's just a power thing again. Is this not a form of class snobbery, an attempted, domination and subjugation of the assembled masses on the net?

Zoof Oooo by the way tis was no jock this morning

Accepting Autism, allergies and other such aliments is nothing to do with the ‘goal posts’ being moved – rather society and the social masses at last has come to learn about these conditions and how it effects people rather them being ‘weird’ or ‘stupid’.

If you want proof you only have to go back 60 years to the local asylum and see the way that patients were treated. Frontal lobe lobotomies were all the rage in them days. Not to mention pumping someone full of some weird hallucinogenic drug and then wondering why they grounded their teeth down to the gum line.

Ignorance and not acknowledging that there is an issue is now thankfully (it would appear) to be a thing of the past.

+ several.

The bolded part is not true of all people, unfortunately.

Yes, I am offended.

Hey, loads more people are diagnosed with cancer than they used to be. I guess cancer is just a handy label so that people don't have to help themselves out of their problems, right?
Or maybe professionals are getting better at diagnosing these conditions.

Actually my official position is that I dissent from the clumsy germanic RP of the native British languages as introduced by Victoriana. I'm with the early 20th century Scottish Renaissance on the topic. Which means a slant towards the literary vernacular, the folk and ultimately the lyric as an expression of the human condition.

I agree with everything you say but not the way you say it..

What I cannot help getting twitchy about is when a word is used incorrectly so that its true meaning will eventually be lost.
For example, infer / imply and uninterested / disinterested.
