On way to work this morning old guy with two dogs up ahead of me decides to cross the road gets half way across to the small island looks at me waits till iam almost there and decides to continue crossing, end up getting tangled up with the bloody dogs and nearly taking him out good job i was going up hill and taking it steady.
And passers by look as though its my fault !!!!!! Too early in the day to make a stand and i did feel sorry for the old guy.

A little clarity here would be good. I believe pedestrians DO have the right of way on any road [except motorways] and vehicles [including cycles of course] MUST give way to them. Unlike in the ol' US of A where Jay [as I think they call it] walking is an offence. Anybody know the position here ?
Anyhow, to the OP - glad everybody's ok but the problem is [as has been said many times before I'm sure] cycles are small and silent, perhaps we should all learn to sing a few loud operatic arias. At least it would make a change from the dumb beat muzic of the hot hatch brigade.

I'm a big fan of heavy panting to give people an idea I'm there....mostly I practice at night on the phone

Pedestrians do the darndest things though, glad you're both alright!!

I hit an old lady a few weeks ago. She'd just run out in front of me as she was trying to catch a bus. Absolutely nothing I could do but brake. I went over the bars but being clipped in the bike followed me and she got a bit of a whack on the head.

None of the witnesses were willing to take her home so I walked her the 100 yards or so. Rang her friend to come and sit with her. Her son rang me later in the morning. Thankfully it was all very amicable and he was just glad she was ok.

Right of way, yes, but that doesn't mean they necessarily have priority. Still, as you and the highway code say we should try to avoid any collisions, and even more so from a moral point of view, as we vehicular road users bring all the danger to pedestrians.

That one yesterday,as in the video,I did manage to catch a glimpse of two pedestrians on the pavement watching and the look of horror on their faces.Obviously I couldn't stop pedaling just like that.In a way the camera makes it look closer and worse than what it was.

Noticed that on several occasions, pedestrians look right at you and then continue on their merry way as if to say 'It's not a car so I can continue' . A friend told me the other day about a youngster wearing headphones and looking at their phone who croosed the road right in front of my friends car. Fortunately he had already slowed to a crawl but said the look on the pedestrians face was priceless when he realised that there was a car within a few feet of him.

They have right of way, in that there is no restriction on where they can cross roads, but that doesn't mean that they can just leap out in front of traffic.

I've had exactly that in a car. The green cross code is soooooo not cool, man. It was a quiet residential road but cars can really tank it down there, and he popped out from behind a car as well...

.

the highway code does NOT say that pedestrians have priority and that cars must give way, on the contrary it says:

7. D. If traffic is coming, let it pass. Look all around again and listen. Do not cross until there is a safe gap in the traffic and you are certain that there is plenty of time. Remember, even if traffic is a long way off, it may be approaching very quickly.

and

18
You MUST NOT loiter on any type of crossing.
[Laws ZPPPCRGD reg 19 & RTRA sect 25(5)]

19 D (zebra crossings) Remember that traffic does not have to stop until someone has moved onto the crossing.

it does say that pedestrian have priority in one defined situation:

170 watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way
