Pedestrian focussed policy in Berlin.... a significant change away from cars..?

Just (quickly)read this from Deutsche Weld, which seems to be a major change towards pedestrian and cyclist focussed streets...

Seems interesting, but I’ve no knowledge of Berlin since before the wall cam down, or just after actually.

I went to Berlin in 2017, hired bikes and found the infrastructure and the way motorists treated you extremely good. There were segregated paths, paint on the roads and roads with nothing in the suburbs. Many of the major roads were also very wide, which helps to make you feel safe. Highly recommended to visit.
