Pedestrian Tunnel to newcastle

hope you can help
my dad seen a poster saying there was going to be a ride from the tyne tunnel Pedestrian Tunnel to newcastle but you had to aply but he didint find out how are who you had to aply to dose any one know about this

Not heard anything about it but they are supposed to be closing the tunnel for a year to upgrade the escalators from October 2012....

Hopefully in the refurbishment they will install lifts long enough to fit a trailer bike in...its a pain having to undo the hitch twice so I use the ferry when trailering and the tunnel solo.
hopefully they might fix the (gulp) leaks near the middle

Sent them an email asking when the tunnels are to be closed...
here's their reply:

"We are still unable to confirm the closure and reopening dates for the tunnels. We promise we will give users at least 4 weeks notice before we announce the closure date.

I can confirm that the closure will not now happen in October.

Also asked about any planned public rides using the tunnel before it closes... will post any response.

Replacing the escalators explains why they weren't on the other week.
Was a pig trying to walk down them carrying my bike and wearing sod-SL's.

Needless to say I took the lift at the other end

Looks like I'll have to avoid the tunnel since it forms part of my 20 mile loop ride ... just love the cold breeze down there as you dash along the tunnel ...so refreshing

Hope they add the free bike transport while it's closed.
