Unfortunately I do believe that there is a section of the population that wants anyone who dares to go on the roads not inside a vehicle to wear hi-vis, I would if it meant that if they hit a cyclist the driver would automatically go to jail for 5 years minimum, and longer for any injury!

For safety ban black and grey cars, bmw drivers, animals, blind bends and tunnels, off camber anything and make jaywalking a crime. If we wrapped all in bubbles and hi-vis'd everyone/thing and everywhere in the name of safety would we be able to see danger? Would there be any danger to see?
Think how stylish we cyclists would look, all in black (only to be visible of course), in our soon to be fully "hi-vis" world

Why not just ban private cars?

Better though to introduce mandatory lifetime driving bans for all driving offences - first offence and no exceptions. It would concentrate minds enough to stop all bad driving.

It was pretty clear what you meant. The "some" was implicit in the statement. Plenty of lawyers look up to him.

Briefly I entertained the fantasy that an elderly rabbi might be in possession of enough Cabalistic Magick to be able to render himself invisible. But not enough, it seems, to render him safe from the consequences of encountering a **** behind the wheel of a car.

I dislike how this Freeman creep gets guilty wealthy clients off on technicalities as much as everyone else, but he does have a point about pedestrians being hard to see at night when wearing dark clothing. However,suggesting making it compulsory to wear high viz shows his contempt for people who walk because they want to,or can't afford to drive expensive cars like himself!

Hi-Vis clothing will not work at night for a very simple reason. The natural UV light required for the clothing to be Hi-Vis in the first place, isn't present.

No. Modern Hi-Vis relies on UV light, not present at night, for it to work correctly. Perfect during the day, useless at night.
There are pictures on here which show the effectivness of Hi-Vis clothing at night. Its the retro flective material added that gets it noticed at night.

You hear of people developing cars that will drive themselves, etc. Well, whilst that might bring down the number of accidents somewhat, I do have to worry that the system won't be fully failsafe and that people will be able to over-ride it or accidents will happen due to the software not recognising a specific incident. Besides, there is no accounting for the general stupidity of the human race anyway, so I bet people will still get run over due to carelessness.

I'll wait and see.
