With the MiL landed at our house, it was time to load up the trailer hitch up and b*gger off for a few days. Where to go being the question ? I could head north into the heart of Wales or, east to the Brecon Beacons national park. Both locations I ride fairly regularly, so I decided to head off into pembs, somewhere I dont go to often, even though it is the neighbouring county.
Now, when I camp I like to be comfortable, hence the trailer being loaded to its max.
Off into the lovely morning sunshine heading for Crymych using much of NCN route 47. I use this route pretty regularly as it is local to me. It winds through farmland with some spectacular views and the climbs are not to bad
. The only village i pass through is Tegryn before arriving at Crymych, gateway to the Preseli hills. I follow the 47 out of the town and south of the range. The views get even more stunning and the experience is enhanced by complete lack of traffic (the norm for north pembs). I stop at some standing stones for my first cuppa and to take in the scenery.
I continue to the B4313 and emerge to have the whole of pembs. layed out before my eyes glorious. i pass through Henrys Moat and here I leave the 47 and head SW for Wolf's Castle. Here I pass under the A40 and find a lovely little picnic site under the fly over next to a cystal clear stream. 50m south along the main road and I bear right and lovely hostelery winks at me,opening time as well ! How could I refuse.
Winding my way on I reach Middle mill and NCN 4 which will take me into St Davids for my overnight stop.
The sea mist has decended as I arrive at the site (£4.50) adjacent to the coast path. After pitching the tent the sun comes out again, I head down to the beach for an evening swim. Back on the bike and head into St Davids for fish and chips in the tiny square.
I head back along route 4 in the morning to middle mill for a fry up b/fast next to the stream. From here I join the A487 just east of Solva and onto Newgale the sea mist has returned temporarily.
Leaving the main road I follow the coast over some stiff climbs to the tiny village of Nolton Haven, here I leave route 4 and head inland for some supplies.
More to follow in part 2.
