Yesterday morning I passed a large group of riders heading up Gilling Bank near Richmond. They were all in identical kit, including bright orange shoes, with a little support car and everything. It turns out they weren't one of the less well funded Tour of Britain teams on the way to Peebles for the start today but penguins riding from Leed to Newcastle to take part in the Great North Run for Cancer Research.
I don't know if they have internet at the South Pole, or Leeds for that matter, but I hope you guys all make it safely back to Headingly and people give you lots of money and fish in the meantime and I can't help thinking that with the Japanese being into this kind of thing and if we could get that Coe fellow or Princess Anne to have a quiet word next time either is in the far east we could yet see Pengulathon in the Tokyo Olympics.
