We had 3 Dave's in the factory: Dave, Big Dave and Crazy Dave. Dave's since left but we've still got Big Dave and Crazy Dave.
I answer to Colin, Col or CJ (I didn't get to where I am today by not letting people call me CJ!) but only my stepdaughter gets to call me 'Colon'. I don't know why she does it but with her, it's either 'Col' or 'Colon'. If anybody else called me that, it would be like they were saying that I was full of crap!![]()
We have a friend also with the surname Nguyen - he pronounces is 'Noy-en' not Whinn
Who else seems to get given nicknames?
Funnily enough, I used to have a Mazda 323!I've got a car called Maz - the last two letters dropped off.
Which was slightly unusual as your first two names are Richard Paul.I was "Jon James!" when I was in trouble.
Mrs Norm says "Dave stacks shelves in Tescos and I'm a David, thank you very much."
I tend to get nicknames too, Arch is one I picked up at Uni.
The other thing which is interesting is how some people attract nicknames and others don't. I've had loads of nicknames over the years, either relating to my appearance - "Swampy" or (currently) "Jesus" - or my hobbies - "Cloudy Shite", usually shortened to "Cloudy" - when I was into home brewing.
