Its midsumers day, when Biggs traditionally opens his garage door at dawn and the sun rises directly above.
The ancients knew this, and built stonhenge in his honour, a giant monument of prehistoric stone-built Sheffield stands.
For years the druids commemorate Biggs' forbidden garage of mystery by visiting the giant Sheffield stands and praying in his honour. Indeed, the name "druids" originates for the midsummer ritual where Biggs "drew his" latest machine from the forbidden garage of mystery for his pre-dawn midsummer ride. Their chants mimic the sound of a well oiled chain passing over the cassette, punctuated with slickly executed hear changes.
At the end of each years ritual the druids sacrifice another old bike by throwing it from the crater rim into Biggs's lair, and thus his Bind-villain-esque underground cavern became crammed with hundreds of "skip finds".
At Christmas and on Biggs' birthday the Druids commemorate the lesser gods Shimano, Suntour, and Dia Compe in the hope that united they can protect their master, the Lord Biggs, from the evil clutches of the Archangel SRAM, who was cast into Hell for having a different cable pull ratio.

Don't visit many pubs these days it will be for general use and a wet weather bike.
It will also hopefully stop me from buying one of 2 Pashley's for sale locally that have caught my eye .

Whilst I was rescuing my old Raleigh from the back of the garage this morning I came across a few old wheels some of are old steel rimmed others are sprint rims so I started stripping them down tonight and the first one was a steel rimmed 26 x 1 1/4 one which if I remember rightly came https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/h...lub-special-aka-50s-dayton-roadmaster.232525/ which bad all been hand painted blue which included this nice BH front hub .

A few of you might be aware that I am stripping down a few old steel and sprint wheels after a recent move things around the garage.
After doing a couple of steel 27" rimmed wheels I moved on to some of the sprint wheels which has surprised me in the amount of excess thread sitting proud of the spoke nipples on these wheels.
Surely this is extra weight on wheels that are built to be lightweight?
I understand it's not going to be massive but it all adds up.
Today's wheel was a Mavic 501 hub , Anodised Mavic Gp4 rim and stainless spokes (not sure what grade) fitted with a continental sprinter 250 tubular.
You learn so much from pulling things apart.

New tyres arrived yesterday
Front tyre has been fitted very similar tread to the old schwalbe one and no hardship to fit.
Just need to decide if I bother re wiring the front dynamo hub and lights up

Looking at your SA Dynohub (?GH6, I've never seen one in the flesh), I presume/note the spoke holes are 'doubles' with a centre of sufficient diameter to allow a spoke head to pass through and opposing slots for trailing and leading spokes. This solves the issue a wheel lacer would otherwise have of forcing the spokes past the opposite wide diameter dynamo flange. Clever boy.

I can't figure out why there is so much clearance under those mudguards! It is almost as though the wheels are undersized.
Certainly little danger of the guards getting clogged up...

The tyres were flat in that picture and they are guards designed for 27" wheeled machines so that's got a lot to do with it .
I need to see if I can get them to sit lower but I always wanted to fit 27" wheels but never have done as it rides so well on 26" x 1 1/4 ones

Early session in the garage this morning swapping out the old rear tyre for the new one and a quick de dust of the spokes and rim.
I struggled to remember the procedure for removing the rear wheel but got it out in the end.
So sturmey archer 3 speed hub with 2 external cogs on a 26x1 1/4 alloy rims and a funky rear derailleur who's brand I can't remember....
Lots of jiggery pokey on this 50's machine.
