Does anyone know if you need to get permission for a memorial-type ride, from the police/council? There would be about 120 riders and the ride would be taken on main roads on a weekday evening @7pm.

Doubtful but worth giving them a ring in case there's something else going on.

Local authorities have differing rules, they will probably at least insist on some sort of insurance. Better to speak to the Council before taking things further to avoid embarrassment later.

Would be a good idea. We used to do m/cycle charity runs and often found the council / police could be very helpfull. , can't hurt anyway.

I would contact both the police and the council. I am quite sure they would allow it but may need to liase with you to avoid any traffic problems.

As Reg said.

If you're likely to impede significant amounts of traffic for a significant time then it's probably wise to inform the local authority. Otherwise you have every right to ride on the highway singly or in groups.

Only massed-start road races require permission to use the roads.
