Peter Smith was one of the "gods" of cycling when I was just starting. Had a very good cycling life and very sad when such a rider becomes a casualty.
I also remember how he and his club mate, John Watson used to hold the bars on top, rather than on the hooks to obtain a more aero position. Very similar to using tribars now, but must have taken a lot more strength.
