[QUOTE 2941850, member: 1314"]Hi

I need to change the headlamp. I've only ever changed a headlamp on a car once in my life. I've googled and it seems easy enough, I'll give it a go on Sunday when I have all day free but...

... any tips? How much should I pay for a replacement bulb from, erm, Halfords!?

Cheers

Hellfrauds will supply and fit. While you, as they say, wait. Sorted innit?

Nah! architects are all bad, charge you £2,000 for a drawing out of a book, where as good honest car dealers would never make an excessive profit out of a customer.^_^

I had a Citroen BX a long time ago.... changing the headlight bulbs on that was fun- the easiest was a Ford Escort. Hardest was a Volvo.
Peugeot 305 GTi. engine bay was about 1/3rd too small for all the gubbins they'd shoved under the bonnet. Changing a bulb involved giving blood.

One of the 307 bulbs is a lot easier than the other to change as far as accessibility is concerned, however, whichever bulb it's got will be a readily available industry standard one, so not sure why Over the Hill was led to believe it was not a common size?

IIRC the offside one, (drivers), is OK to do, but the nearside one, (passenger), is a pig unless you can dislocate your wrists :surrender:

Depending on the age of the car, and the type of lamps fitted there are more then one possible bulb for the dipped beam.

Most will use a H7 two pin halogen bulb, but some can have a H1 single pin bulb fitted. Then again, some very early models may even have older H4 3 pin bulbs fitted

If on doubt whip it out

While I havnt done Peugeots, I have done Toyota Avensis, Ford Focus, both later types..etc etc, they ALL seem pigs to do. £5 plus bulb, I'd jump at it.

My Passat is not an easy one either and I work on cars.
That is the only car that has ever defeated me in bulb fitting, awfully badly set out, & ditto a poor experience of dealer servicing with them, slow & ludicrously expensive. Loved the car, wouldn't have another though.

What, you can still buy headlamp bulbs???

Doesn't seem like that when I meet all these cyclops on my way home from work. I thought production of 12v bulbs had stopped.

39 years ago I was traveling back from Cork to Cohb late at night, coming towards us on the road was a cycle lamp about 10 foot above the ground, now I did think it was a tall Pixie on a big bike, turned out it was attached to a huge combine and was the only light showing.

Those were the days. The whole headlight unit in a BX was retained by by what were effectively four large press-studs. Remove fitting, disconnect wiring and do the faffy bit indoors. Could even wash out inside of fitting necessary.

Same system years earlier on a Pug 104.

It is at least possible on current Berlingo but I hope I never need to do it on cold or rain.

Spot on. I seem to have to do mine (307, now a 308) annually, and the wife's 207 about the same. The n/s on both needs patience...and preferably a small child....
