Hello everyone,
I'm about to buy my first road bike. So far I've only owned mountain bikes but I'm looking for something more appropriate for the types of rides I like to do. The bike I'm thinking of getting is the Peugeot Galibier as mentioned in the subject line. The bike has the following specs

12 speed

Shimano Altus rear mech

Weinmann brakes and levers

Mavic rear rim

The bike is fully serviced with new cables, new brake pads, new bar tape and new tyres. Although the specs on the ad don't list it, one of the pictures shows a decal stating the frame to be Reynolds 501. I like the bike but I'm wondering if someone who knows this model can tell me whether they think it is worth the £295 price tag? I think it is from the mid 1980s and is aesthetically in good condition as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards.

Personally I wouldn't. 501 is nothing special, a heavy frame by modern standards. The gearing will probably be quite high, and with a freewheel rather than the cassette system that modern bikes use, old style single-pivot brakes. For that sort of money, I'd look at a secondhand modern budget bike, or even a new btwin/carrera etc, or if looking at 'retro' look out for something with a decent 531 frame or similar.
