My mobile is switched off at night and left in the hall table drawer; I can't understand people who leave their phones on then complain about being disturbed by calls and texts at night.

Usually called "On call' or there is a real requirement for accessibility like an elderly relative or such like

It is a cost of that necessary contact

We have a house phone for that, which my elderly Mum rings if she needs help or advice.

This is the "service provider" behind the calls. Queried the calls with them and their reply was the number was one of theirs, but it didn't exist, so couldn't have made the calls.

That's why the number seemed familiar.
Truly, everything unusual happens to you!
All numbers exist: the number may not be in service, but being a number it must exist ^_^

That's why I called them "Phantom Phonecalls". Partly my argument when I said the same number had called more than once.

Yesterday, and I'm not exaggerating here, I had 12 unsolicited calls, all of them automated. Yesterday I signed up for that BT thing.

Guess how many unsolicited calls I had today?

I had one on Monday, asking me if I had been in an accident....

ME : Funny you should mention that, I had an accident only this morning whilst cycling to work
CALLER : Really, what happened ?
ME : I stopped at a junction, then, when the light went green - it happened
CALLER: Were you hit by a vehicle ?
ME : No, I followed through in my shorts.
CALLER : (Long pause) I'm sorry sir, but that's not really an accident
ME : Are you suggesting I shite my shorts on purpose ????
CALLER : *click*
